Cabinet Finishes

San Diego Cabinets offers a wide selection of stain and paint finishes in a generous palette from light to dark with many specialty finish options. In most cases, we blend our own stains so that we can give our customers a custom finish that is uniquly their's.

Stained Finishes

Stained finishes showcase the individual characteristics inherent in each wood species and bring out he natural beauty of wood cabinetry. To create this natural look, a a stain color is thoroughly applied and hand rubbed onto the door and drawer fronts to ensure equal color coverage. To complete the finish process, the Sealer and Catalyzed Lacquer top coats are then applied and hand sanded between coats for a beautiful long lasting finish.

Highlighted Finishes

A base stain is applied to the wood to bring out its beauty and natural characteristics. A highlighted glaze is then carefully hand applied to the recesses in the doors and drawer fronts for a rich accent of color without altering the appearance of the base stain. To complete the finish process, the Sealer and Catalyzed Lacquer top coats are then applied and hand sanded between coats for a beautiful long lasting finish. As with any hand-crafted finish, no two doors will look alike, adding unique character to your cabinetry.

Glazed Finishes

A base stain is applied to the wood and followed by a glaze flood coat to add richness and warmth. The glaze is hand-wiped to create soft highlights in the corners and recesses. A highlight glaze is then hand applied to recesses in the doors and drawer fronts for an accent that produces subtle variations in color from piece to piece. To complete the finish process, the Sealer and Catalyzed Lacquer top coat are applied and hand sanded between coats for a beautiful long lasting finish. As with any hand-crafted finish, no two doors will look alike, adding unique character to your cabinetry.

Antique Glazed Finishes

Several techniques are combined to create the look of freshly restored heirloom cabinetry, each producing subtle variations in color. To begin, the unfinished door and drawer fronts are distressed with random impression marks and over-sanded. A base stain is applied to the wood and is followed by a glaze flood coat to add richness and warmth. The glaze is then carefully hand-wiped to create soft highlights in the corners and recesses. For an additional accent of color, a highlight glaze is hand-applied to the recess in the doors and drawer fronts. To complete the process, the Sealer and Catalyzed Lacquer top coats are applied and hand sanded between coats for a beautiful long lasting finish. As with any hand-crafted finish, no two doors will look alike, adding unique character to your cabinetry.

Burnished Finishes

This warm, tradition look adds dept to the cabinetry for a finish that’s commonly found on fine furniture. To begin the unfinished door and drawer fronts are distressed with random impression marks and over sanded. Next, a darkening stain is artistically applied to the corners and raised areas of the doors and drawer fronts to create a burnished effect. A base stain is then applied and carefully hand-wiped to reveal the natural beauty inherent in the wood. To complete the finish process, the DuraKraft topcoat is applied, over-cured and hand-sanded between coats for a beautiful, long-lasting finish. As with any hand-crafted finish, no two doors will look alike, adding unique character to your cabinetry.

Vintage Finishes

This finish create the look of heirloom cabinetry that’s been well-used and loved. First, the unfurnished door and drawer fronts are distressed and over-sanded. Several coats of heavily pigmented stain saturate the wood for rich, beautiful color. These finishes are semi-opaque, meaning some of the natural beauty of the wood through the finish. To complete the finish process, the DuraKraft topcoat is applied, oven-cured and hand sanded between coats for a beautiful, long-lasting finish.

Painted Finishes

Several coats of heavily pigmented stain saturate the wood for rich, beautiful color. These finishes are semi-opaque meaning some of the natural beauty of the wood grain may be visible. The wood in every door and drawer front naturally expand and contract over time, so it’s normal to see joint lines - this is part of the beauty of a painted finish. To complete the finish process, the DuraKraft topcoat is applied, oven-cured and hand sanded between coats   for a beautiful, long-lasting finish.

Thermofoil

Available in clean White soft Cream, cabinetry doors and drawer fronts feature smooth, satiny surfaces. To achieve process to ensure durable adhesion, resulting in a flawless, easy-to-clean surface. Cabinets feature solid wood face frames finished to match the door color and receive Durakraft topcoat that is oven-cured and hand-sanded between coats for a beautiful long-lasting finish.
